This is a seasonal landmark in Prague”

A very special time of the year is coming… Apart from the other European cities, Prague has a very unique atmosphere during Christmas time.It is a fairy-tale experience in the capital of the Czech Republic. No matter whether you’re a local or a tourist, each person is sharing the same warm feeling while visiting the Christmas Markets (Vánoční trh) in Prague. Let’s start with the weather. According to the forecast, it’s expected to be between 0 and -5 degrees. A good tip is to drink svařák (mulled wine) to warm up. Visit the wooden cottage stands and try traditional food, gingerbread cookies, and Trdelník. Also, you can buy handmade Christmas ornaments and gifts for your family or friends.

Like the other years, the most famous Prague Christmas Market will be at the Old Town Square. Important notice: this market is one of the top 10 Christmas Markets in Europe. I read in the newspaper that this years’ Christmas tree was found in Liberec (north) region. Surprisingly, there was a prize of 10.000 CZK for a good Christmas tree advice. Maybe next year the prize will be yours, who knows? As you can see this is the most anticipated event and the Christmas lights will be switched on the 30th of November. Be ready for this fantastic moment and a huge crowd.

Of course, it’s not limited to these activities. There will be choirs singing Christmas songs, the lights will be shining in the dark and people will spend some time to take amazing pictures (and selfies). Let’s have a look at the list below to find out the Prague Christmas Market dates and venues (seems that we can learn the Czech names of the main squares in Prague :). All these markets are accessible by public transport. And don’t miss the map of the markets at the end of this post.
